MILLICENT SHOW

About Us

The annual Millicent Show is organised by a General Committee comprising elected Office Bearers and Members.

The society is grateful for the tremendous support from local individuals, service groups, businesses, and the Wattle Range Council especially after the cancellation of the Millicent Show in 2020. The Show received a Federal Grant in 2020 which boosted our morale. This was for our Kitchen project to establish this facility again after this area of the showgrounds had spent many years in the wilderness. Thank you to Barb Nitschke who spent many hours preparing this submission. Also a thank you to Infigen Energy @Iberdrola Australia – Lake Bonney Community Fund and Kimberley-Clark Australia for their ongoing support.

History

Since its inception in 1876, the Millicent Show has been a drawcard for locals and visitors from far and wide, and it was the first three-day Show outside of Adelaide, and we are one of the few Societies who own our own grounds.

Where once farmers travelled for hours by horse and cart, and then by train, we now attract competitors and exhibitors from all over Australia, including some who ‘fly-in, and fly-out’ from our adjacent airstrip.

Many of the traditional categories remain, spanning three centuries; some have been adapted to reflect modern-day farming methods, and new categories added to reflect technological advances and changing interests in the community.

Entertainment, side-shows and food also form a large part of attractions, and the Friday evening fireworks display continues to win awards.
